Some glass is too high for a water-fed pole and out of reach of a cherry picker. For those buildings we provide rope access window cleaning, carried out by certified rope access technicians who abseil down the face of the building, with no scaffolding and very little disruption at ground level.

When rope access is the right choice
Most commercial windows are cleaned from the ground with our water-fed poles, which reach 70ft. Above that, or where a pole can’t reach safely, the choice is usually between a cherry picker and rope access.
Rope access window cleaning is often the better option for tall office blocks, apartment blocks, atriums and glazing above car parks, roads or landscaping where a cherry picker can’t be set up. Technicians work from ropes fixed to anchor points on your roof, so there’s no heavy machinery on site, no scaffolding to hire, and pavements and entrances stay open.

What is rope access window cleaning?
Also called abseil window cleaning, it means cleaning windows from ropes fixed to the roof of the building. Certified technicians descend the face of the building on two independent ropes, cleaning the glass as they go.
Is rope access safe?
Yes, when it is done by trained, certified technicians. Every job has a risk assessment, a method statement and a rescue plan, and each technician works on two independent ropes.
When do you use rope access instead of a cherry picker?
When the glass is too high for a cherry picker, or when one can’t be set up safely, for example over roads, car parks, soft landscaping or busy entrances. Rope access also avoids hiring heavy machinery for a single clean.
Does our building need roof anchor points?
Rope access needs suitable anchor points on the roof, and they must have been tested, usually once a year. We check them before any work starts. If your building doesn’t have them, tell us and we’ll talk you through the options.
How high can you go?
Our water-fed poles reach 70ft from the ground. With rope access, height is not the limiting factor; the roof and the anchor points are.
Can you clean the inside of an atrium?
Often, yes. Atrium glass and other internal high-level glazing can be reached by rope access where there are suitable anchor points. Send us a few photos with your quote request.
